A complete Interior’s project; to redesign a bar & restaurant, hotel guestrooms, lobby & entrance areas, and a rooftop garden. Commenced April 2020 during the first weeks of Lockdown, which brought considerable challenges to the project.

The Courthouse was Grade 2 listed and had already been unsympathetically converted on the cheap into a restaurant – failing commercially without enough covers, a poor use of space and lacking appeal to a younger generation. The client wished to create an ‘outdoors’ feel, with faux green walls, lanterns, bistro / courtyard type furniture. The Guestrooms were converted from the 1970’s prisoner’s cells, so lacked natural light & had exceptionally high ceilings, again quite challenging.

The new Bar & Restarant is now commercially successful, so a good outcome. Although from a design perspective I would have liked to retain more of the original Courthouse ‘look and feel’ which are still there under the foliage.

Built in 1852, Stockport Produce Hall is a Grade 2 listed building, originally a farm produce market (with the next-door courthouse cells in the basement) and unsympathetically modernised in the 80’s. In 2018 work began on a £800k project to give the site a new lease of life as a food hall with Lead design by A Taylor design, Medlock as Main contractor.

Working under the Lead designer, over a 12 month period 360 degree design produced the interior architecture drawing packs for the project comprising: 3 floors x existing, tender, demolition, new build, RCP, floor/ wall/ door schedules, joinery details, fire approval, sections & elevation drawings. On completion, in its first six months the produce hall has sold 13,000 burgers, 15,000 pizzas and even 5,000 portions of patatas bravas. It has created 50 new jobs, including 23 jobs for returners to work.

Of particular interest; a steel spiral stair had to be designed from scratch, five food stalls required detailing, coordinated drawings were prepared for building control and fire officer approval.

360 deg was directly employed to redesign the restaurant, bar and reception and bring these spaces into the 21st century. Challenges included increasing the number of covers from 70 to over 100, updating the interior to comply with current building regs, and create a modern vibrant adaptable space which felt ‘right’ and functioned well even when full to capacity.

Since re-opening in 2018, the Restaurant has been granted a ‘Marco Pierre White’ franchise – something of an honor considering the Chef’s reputation. Tripadvisor comments highly praise the fit-out and the new owner is delighted.

Small schemes are often the best design projects: self contained with a singular vision, run by passionate individuals instead of committees. 360 deg design was retained by the museum design consultancy to create a profile drawing pack, comprising joinery detailing plus a full interiors schedule.

Birch plywood faced in white laminate was used throughout, with simple geometric forms to create interest and frame the display objects. One of the best projects 360 has been involved in, and to quote the National Lottery Fund, the realization of this project was: “Absolutely stunning”

In 2016 Tesco updated the staff restaurants at their Hertfordshire Head Office site: a rolling program implemented across 4 restaurants and 6 cafes serving 4,500 staff.

Working freelance for the joinery contractor; 360deg carried out site surveys & liaised with the client, coordinated with other contractors, produced workshop drawings and oversaw installation. The key design challenges here were that the design should enable rapid and efficient installation, all finishes should be highly durable & resistant to aggressive cleaning.

Front-of-house worktops were in Krion for its anti-bacterial and heat resistant properties, all sub-frames and back-of-house worktops in catering grade stainless steel, and vertical panels in either timber effect laminate or ceramic tiling.

Morley Cricket Club, West Yorkshire, wished to refurbish their premises and required a design proposal in order to apply for a development grant.

The existing interiors were tired and worn out being perhaps 25 years old resembling a 1980’s working man’s club, no plans or detail drawings existed for the premises. 360 degree was brought on board to specifically redesign the club bar and provide a general scheme which could then be accurately costed and rolled out as a template for the other rooms in the building.

The object here was ‘Evolution not Revolution’ the club committee recognizing that whilst the bar room most definitely needed a facelift and updating to suit casual dining, they firmly wished to keep the existing ‘feel’ and stick to a conservative palette of club colours. The budget was tight, with structural building work out of the question.

A new gallery within the United States’ most prestigious museum. 360 was employed as a freelancer by a Leicester museum design studio to develop and refine the interiors package. The drawings are annotated in American English, dimensioned in imperial with U.S. material references. Construction had to meet U.S. building & disabled access standards, and comply with the museum’s highly exacting design manual.

With literally priceless objects on display security was of paramount importance, to to be achieved unobtrusively while providing an excellent visitor experience. This resulted in an exceptionally complex drawing package, yet the final results are clean and cohesive.

The display cases are glazed with low-iron laminated armoured glass up to 1″ thick (requiring hinges rated to 500kg), with cabintry cased in 3mm E.P.C. steel over a ZF-MDF carcass. LED fibre-optics were specified to minimise heat build up & negate UV damage within the display, with humidity control and alarmed access throughout. Many of the smaller coins were not only valuable but also extremely fragile, so vibration damping was required as an integral part of the design

The Mall had an approved concept design, so the Joinery Contractor turned to 360deg to develop this into a workable solution. Challenges included the Mall’s fire standards; all materials were to European class B (was BS:Class 0), using Bamboo and Krion solid surfacing with stainless steel backbars. Further challenges were presented by the need to enclose 2 x ATM machines securely. All services came down the pillars, requiring water & drainage pumps, filters & heaters.

These images and drawings are just a few taken from a 28 sheet drawing pack. Design work was carried out in AutoCAD over 2 weeks (including general arrangement & piece part drawings, M&E schedule, CNC profiles and 2 rounds of revisions), with 3D renders achieved very quickly in just 2 days using Sketchup software for speed.
